Paleo Recipe Book Review-Part Time Paleo

  • If you are searching for how to go Paleo, how to start the Paleo diet, you may come upon a new notion. Part Time Paleo.
There are many diets and diet systems that are similar to the Paleo diet in many respects. In recent years much has been discovered about diet and health, and many of these popular diets have included these discoveries.
One of the most important of these factors is grains. The Paleo diet and many other diets recommend avoiding grains. This is particularly true of gluten free diets, however there are many other diets and diet systems that recommend staying away from grains. The reasons for this is mainly the effect of grains/carbs on weight gain, and the effects of grains on autoimmune conditions. It then became obvious to many, that people that avoided grains lost weight, and many of them had improved health as well.
It is certainly no surprise that sugars in the diet have added greatly to our obesity problem. It was recently announced that according to studies, what we drink may be worse than what we eat. Add to that studies of food chemicals and preservatives have been linked to both weight gain and retention, as well as to many serious health conditions.
In light of all of this, it should be no surprise that so many of the hottest diets including Paleo, incorporate these principles. It is pretty much of a no brainer that if we eat less carbs, dairy, sugars and preservatives, we will most probably lose significant body fat and quite possibly live healthier lives.
So what does all this have to do with How to Go Paleo and Part time Paleo?
There are many Paleo forums including Paleohacks where people discuss their Paleo methods. The results for those that go Paleo are impressive. What may surprise you is that there are a lot people reporting significant results, just by following the Paleo guidelines, part of the time. The great thing about Paleo is that you can dine well on favorites like steak and roasts, shrimp, the beloved bacon as well as most favorite vegetables. The books are loaded with great Paleo dinner ideas. The really great thing about Part time Paleo is that you can have all that, and a slice of bread or a brownie on occasion and still get results. It almost boggles the imagination. A diet that doesnt have to be followed 100%, and still produces great results.
But how to go part time Paleo? For whatever reason, there are plenty of guinea pigs that are trying different approaches to part time Paleo. Some are eating mostly Paleo but some non Paleo each day, but the majority are eating Paleo most days of the week and no Paleo one or two days of the week. There really is no rule here, although Im sure someone will eventually come out with a book or system of their own. It would seem though that the best way to do part time Paleo is the by the last method. Eating Paleo for full days, and then a day or two of cheating would seem to make more sense than eating some non paleo each day, for many reasons.
I would like to point out again that if you are interested in Paleo to improve a health condition, you should look into full time Paleo. You will need to avoid these allergens to see an improvement in your health. However, if you are going Paleo to lose some excess body fat, and perhaps improve your overall health, part time Paleo may be just what you are looking for.
How can this possibly work ? Think about this. If you just went Paleo on Monday and Tuesday, (and Im not suggesting that), you would be leaving out lots of your usual carbs, sugars and calories. So it makes sense that even in part time, Paleo would do its magic for you. Although there is not a set system, it would probably make sense to come up with a routine. The body is used to routines and would probably respond better. Also it would be sloppier to try to eat some non Paleo each day. It would be too easy to forget your goals and end up doing what you normally do. It would perhaps make more sense to eat Paleo each weekday, and allow some non Paleo every weekend. You could also do every other day. I have seen many different approaches to how this done and most of them worked out well. So you are on your own as far as how you implement it.
One thing to remember is that the more you put into something, the more you get back. It is also important to realize that without some discipline and order, you will probably end up eating more or less the same as you do now. The good news is that you dont have the pressure of strictly controlling your diet 100%. You are not depriving yourself. You can have that cookie next time without guilt. You dont have to worry about failing.
